Welcome to Dan Emmett Elementary

About the School

Dan Emmett Elementary School was built in 1950. It was named for Daniel Decatur Emmett (the author of Dixie) who was born in Mount Vernon. The south wing of Dan Emmett School was added to the building in 1988.

Many renovations have been completed over the years. A new fire alarm system, bell system, public address system and ceiling lights have all been updated. The building has been wired for technology improvements. All classrooms have Dell computers that use a wide variety of software and can connect students and staff with the internet.

The building houses students in grades kindergarten through fifth, as well as the district’s Intermediate Multiple Handicapped class. Dan Emmett School enrolls approximately 330 students, with 45 staff.
