Pleasant Street Elementary is the largest of six elementary schools in the Mount Vernon
City School district. Originally constructed as a junior high school in 1959, Pleasant
Street Elementary is a large facility which enjoys such amenities as a separate
gymnasium and cafeteria. Our school represents socioeconomic differences and cultural
diversity. Everyone in our school works together to provide a welcome atmosphere
where children from all walks of life learn, play and grow together.
So many people work together – behind the scenes and at the forefront – to make
Pleasant Street a pleasant place to learn. Our professional staff, instructional aides,
parents, volunteers, secretaries, custodians, cooks, and administration make it possible to
offer a wide variety of educational programs to meet the needs of the students.
Any student that likes to read and is in the fifth grade can be tested to be part of the Battle
of the Books Team.
Students in fourth and fifth grade have an opportunity to be part of noon intramural
